If you’re getting on a plane soon, what you’re wearing can have a big-time impact on your comfort. Click here to learn what to wear on a flight.
Almost half of the United States population has taken a commercial flight within the last 12 months.
And if you’re one of those people, you know how uncomfortable flying can be, especially if you don’t know what to wear on a flight.
But it doesn’t have to be! Read on for our best travel outfit recommendations so you can travel in comfort during your next flight.
Here’s What to Wear on a Flight
From head to toe, here’s what you should wear while flying.
Tops
Flying involves a lot of potential temperature changes so it’s important to wear a top that will work well for both warm and cold.
We recommend cotton, knit fabrics, and (unless you’re traveling somewhere warm) a 3/4 or long sleeve.
Avoid tops with potentially uncomfortable features or a restrictive fit.
Bottoms
Leggings, leggings, leggings! Dark colored leggings are my go-to for flights for many reasons:
- They’re comfortable
- They’ll keep you warm in the frigid cruising altitude temperatures
- They’re non-restricting which can help prevent blood clots
- Dark colors can hide any potential stains from spills or other mishaps
One of the best parts about wearing leggings on a flight is that you can still manage to look casual and chic even when it feels like you’re wearing pajamas.
Shoes
When considering what to wear on your feet ask yourself these things:
- What is the climate where I’m landing?
- Will these shoes be easy to put on and take off at security checkpoints?
- Are they comfortable and easy to walk in?
Do not wear heels. I repeat, do not wear heels! There are very few situations where a heeled shoe is appropriate for flying.
And if you really need to be in heels after landing, pack them in your carry-on luggage so you can wear more comfortable and functional shoes before and during your flight. Then simply change shoes once the plane has landed.
For warmer landing climates, consider a pair of slides or slip-on sneakers. For cooler temperatures choose a pair of warm socks and comfortable, flat boots.
Outerwear
Layers are essential to your comfort as you fly. At cruising altitudes, temperatures inside the plane will drop. You might be seated next to someone who blasts their AC during the whole flight.
Either way, it’s good to come prepared with a cozy cardigan that can keep you warm. Follow the link for more info on the best cardigans for travel.
Accessories
With comfort as their goal, most people opt out of jewelry except for wedding rings.
If you’ll be sleeping during any part of your flight, you’ll probably want to fly without earrings, hair accessories, or necklaces that would cause discomfort.
If you need those items post flight, just keep them securely stored in your carry-on luggage till your flight lands.
Remember This!
It’s not hard to travel comfortably once you know what to wear on a flight! So pack your best pair of leggings and a cuddly cardigan and book the flight for your next dream vacation.
