Glamping vs Camping: What’s the Difference?

It’s no secret that getting out and engaging with nature is something that we should all do. In fact, significant interaction with nature has shown to increase physical and mental wellbeing.

One of the best ways to spend meaningful time with nature is camping. There are a few forms of camping, though, one of them being something called “glamping.”

We’re going to look at your camping options in this article, exploring glamping vs camping and which one might be better for you.

Understanding Glamping vs Camping

As the name suggests, “glamping” is a form of glamorous camping. Some die-hard campers out there might think that glamping isn’t truly camping, and they would be right in some respects.

That said, not everyone is trying to go out and put themselves in the middle of the wilderness. Glamping is still situated in nature, although it’s a little less rugged than wilderness camping.

What is Glamping, Specifically?

Glamping is any form of camping that allows for more amenities and comforts than traditional camping does. Parking your RV at a campsite and staying there for a week would be considered glamping to some people.

There are also glamping options that place you in luxury while still situated in nature. For you to be camping at all, you have to be staying in nature and outside of a traditional structure.

RVs and campers sort of toe the line between camping and sleeping indoors. Most glamping options offer you a place to sleep that’s a little more swanky than a tent. Some luxurious glamping options are more akin to resorts than campsites.

How About True Camping?

Camping is traditionally the process of going out into nature, setting up a tent, cooking your own food, and sleeping in some measure of wilderness.

There are a lot of campsites at national and state parks that offer things like running water and bathrooms. Those are great places to set yourself up if you’re on a trip and need a place to rest your head before you go off on the next day’s hike.

Some people might also camp out in the wilderness of various parks. Doing this requires a measure of skill and awareness. Wilderness camping gives individuals the responsibility of their own safety.

One has to make sure they have enough food, warm clothes, maps, and medical equipment to stay safe. Glamping, on the other hand, is entirely safe and doesn’t require that a person has those extra security precautions.

So, if you’re looking for an experience with nature and are deciding between camping and glamping, think about the amount of effort you’d like to put in. Camping can be tough and requires some additional thought.

Glamping is a little more relaxed, but both get you out in nature and will provide you with the health benefits that come with sleeping under the stars.

Need More Camping Tips?

The glamping vs camping decision should be made based on your desires for your trip as well as your level of experience. Camping in style is no less camping, so don’t feel like you have to prove yourself if you’re not comfortable in the wilderness!

We’re here to help you with more tips and tricks on camping, glamping, traveling, and everything in between.
