Traveling is awesome for many reasons. You get to explore new places, meet new people, and learn about different cultures. Then after all that, you get mementos you can bring home with you and keep forever.
And instead of letting your travel mementos sit in a dusty box, here are 4 tips on how to get creative and put them to good use.
Make a Photo Book
Pictures are a top travel memento, and a photo book is a great way to display them. With a photo book, you get to relive all the amazing moments from your trip not just by yourself but with your friends, family, colleagues- really anyone who visits.
Plus, photo books can be displayed stylishly in different ways. On your coffee table for instance. Or, if you’re really looking to get organized, as part of a home library where each book is themed by country, region or city.
To make a photo book, simply gather up all the photos you want to include, choose a quality printing service, and follow the instructions on their website.
Create a Travel Map
If you love maps, this is one of the best ways to show off all the places you’ve been. It’s also another great interior design decor piece. You can hang it on an accent wall for instance.
There are all sorts of ways to make a travel map, but one of the simplest is to get a world map poster and use stickers, pins or washi tape to mark all the places you’ve been.
If you want something a bit more sophisticated, you can try your hand at calligraphy and hand-letter each destination. Or, take things a step further and use 3D letters to create a raised effect.
Make a Food Scrapbook
Food is a big part of travel, so why not bring the flavors of your favorite destinations home with you? If your travels were more about experiencing different foods rather than different locations, this is a perfect way to show off your mementos.
Start by gathering up all the photos, recipes, ticket stubs, food wrappers, etc you collected on your trip. Then, create a simple layout in a word processing program or use a design template to make things easier. First, organize the recipes. Then, include the other mementos creatively in the rest of the book. For instance, you can include them in a zigzag shape throughout the food scrapbook.
Make Fridge Magnets
Fridge magnets have been used to display achievements, family photos, quirky art, etc for decades. Why not add your travel mementos to the mix?
You can make fridge magnets out of just about any of your mementos- from postcards and photos, to ticket stubs and maps. All you need is a strong adhesive and something to cut the shapes out with.
Your travel mementos should be treated like the valuables they are. There are all sorts of ways to display and store them, and it’s important to find a method that works for you. Experiment with these ideas until you find something you love.
