It’s summertime, and you know what that means. People with yachts are bringing them out, and you get to take advantage of a little party.
But what are you going to wear? These parties can be a bit more sophisticated than the average night out at the club, and you’re on the water.
Do you even know what to wear to a yacht party?
If you want to arrive in style, you’re in the right place. We want to help you out. Here are a few of our favorite ideas for what to wear on a yacht when it’s party time.
A Solid-Colored Dress
When you’re going out on the yacht, a solid-colored summer dress is a great choice. It can be dressed up or down depending on how you accessorize, and almost everyone already has one in their closet.
Pick a color that isn’t too bold. Dark colors, black, and white are great. A solid white dress just screams “I’m going out on a boat”.
Your dress shouldn’t be too short, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be conservative. An A-line dress that hits an inch or so below fingertip length will suffice. You can also choose to go longer, especially if you’re worried about the wind.
A midi or knee-length A-line dress gives you a classic silhouette while still being swingy and not too conservative. A maxi dress is great for those hot summer yacht parties where you want to keep a little bit cooler but don’t want to have so much skin exposed.
Whatever you decide to do, pick a dress length that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
A Jumpsuit Or Flowy Pants
If you’re not the dress type, apply the same monochrome concept to pants and your top instead (or if you want to do both at the same time, a stylish jumpsuit).
Pants that have wide and flowy legs give an effortless and breezy look that fits the yacht environment. They’ll also keep you cool in the sun.
Jumpsuits are in right now and they’re a classy way to attend a semi-formal function without the dress but with the ease of an automatic outfit. Like the dress, choose your accessories carefully to determine whether you’re dressing your outfit up or down.
Nice Jewelry
When you’re wearing such a plain outfit as a base, you get to add decorations that really make your look shine. There are a lot of options here so go with your gut but try to match everything.
If you have a favorite shade of gold (you can often find out what shade best suits your skin tone), having an all-gold jewelry set is a classic and refined look while still being subdued.
If you want to lean into the nautical theme, there are plenty of popular options for ocean-themed jewelry. Seahorses, starfish, shells, and more can adorn your neck, fingers, and wrists.
If you want to stay nautical but be a bit more subtle, pearls are in for 2020 and they’re just ocean-themed enough without screaming “I’m on a boat and I need to show it”. Grabbing some freshwater pearls beads for your next outfit will give just enough sparkle and shine while also giving a nod to the event.
Pearls don’t have to just be necklaces. They look great in rings, earrings, and even barrettes for your hair. Be creative with your sparkle!
If you’re not the type to have a matching collection of jewelry, no problem.
Grab one large and flashy statement necklace to do the work for you. When you have something like this, you only need the one accessory to make the outfit pop. If you’re using statement jewelry, only pick one or two pieces so you don’t look cluttered.
Stable Shoes
How bold are you in stilettos? Are you bold enough to be walking around on a (potentially) moving yacht with slick floors?
If so, you’re bolder than us.
You should choose your shoes carefully. If you’re confident in high and thin heels, go for it. If not, consider kitten heels, or something a bit chunkier.
Flat sandals are also a nice and summery choice that fits the aesthetic. If you need the height, beachy platforms are also in. In reality, a large enough yacht feels similar to being on land. When you’re on the water anything can happen though, so you want to make sure you’ve got your sea legs.
A Wide-Brimmed Hat
If the party starts while the sun is still out, a wide-brimmed hat is the best way to protect your skin with style.
While you should always be wearing sunscreen when you’re outside during the day, the hat adds an extra layer of protection while looking elegant at the same time.
If you like a more flowy and casual look, pick a straw boater hat or something like a refined straw garden hat. Try a hat that matches the color of your outfit. We love an all-black outfit with a floppy black hat.
Bring A Cardigan or Cape
When the party goes from day to night, you might find yourself getting chilly. You’ll be up higher than normal and the surrounding water can bring the temperature down.
Rather than suffering from chilly arms, bringing an extra cover can add a new and stylish accessory to your ‘fit and keep you comfortable.
Something thin and drapey is a great addition to any summer outfit.
Do You Know What to Wear to a Yacht Party?
When it comes to yacht wear, you’re looking to be classy, clean, and just a bit nautical. Think of it as a refined beach party.
If you’re stressing about what to wear to a yacht party, aim for “dressy casual”. You don’t need a ballgown but this isn’t the time to bust out the denim shorts and tropical shirt unless the invite calls for it.
