For years—centuries even—the words “golf” and “swag” didn’t belong in the same sentence. The earliest golfers way back in the 15th century didn’t wear outfits that screamed “SWAG!” and neither did most of the golfers who took part in the sport as recently as 20 years ago.
But in this day and age, golf style has turned a corner in the swag department. Thanks to professional golfers like Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, and, of course, Tiger Woods, it’s not enough for golfers to just play golf anymore—they also need to show off their swagger while they’re doing it!
Do you want to show the world how much swag you have when you’re teeing off on the first hole at your local golf course? There are several things you can do to up your swag in no time.
Here is how to bring your swagger to the golf greens.
Start by Picking out the Perfect Golf Shirt
For most of his career, Tiger Woods has worn a signature red golf shirt on Sundays during major events. His red shirts have become iconic and have struck fear into the hearts of many of his competitors over time.
Red might not be the perfect color for you. But nowadays, there is no reason for any golfer to be traipsing around on a golf course wearing a plain old golf shirt that doesn’t make a statement at all.
Instead, you should show off your golf style by finding golfs shirts that are fashionable and that fit you well. If your golf shirts don’t look like shirts that you would pull out to wear during a night out on the town, you’re not going to have enough swagger when you wear them.
Your golf shirt is going to be the first thing most people see when you step out to play a round of golf. Make it count by choosing a shirt that is every bit as stylish as you are.
Pair It with Form-Fitting Pants
In the early days, many golfers wore shapeless pants with their socks pulled up to their knees when they golfed. They had no swag at all!
Then, many golfers throughout the 1900s appeared to thumb their noses at those who poked fun at golf style by wearing the ugliest pants they could find to play golf. John Daly was the poster child for these kinds of hideous golf pants.
Thankfully, most golfers have gone away from that “style” in recent years. Rather than wearing pants that are either shapeless or downright ugly, they’re choosing form-fitting pants that look like they’re tailor-made.
Much like with golf shirts, your golf pants should look like the same kind of pants you would wear during a nice night out. Otherwise, they’re not going to give your swag a boost at all.
Hold Your Pants up with a Custom Belt
One of the advantages of wearing golf shirts and golf pants that fit well is that it gives golfers an opportunity to shine a spotlight on their belts. Their belts will be front and center when they’re playing golf in the right shirt and pants.
Why not take full advantage of this by stocking up on custom golf belts? Whether you choose to go with a belt that’s one solid color or one with a pattern on it, it can tie your shirt and pants together and steal the show.
Stick a Pair of Stylish Shoes on Your Feet
Golfers didn’t use to have very many options when it came to golf shoes. There were only a few companies that made them, and more often than not, they looked for functional golf shoes as opposed to stylish golf shoes when they were shopping for them.
Neither of these things is true anymore. Almost every major shoe manufacturer makes at least a few pairs of golf shoes these days. And as a result, golfers look for more than comfort when they’re in the market for shoes. They also want shoes that will increase their swag when they’re on the golf course.
Follow their lead and find golf shoes that complete the look you’ve already put together with your shirt, pants, or belt.
Make a Fashion Statement with Your Socks
Want to add a pop of color to your golf style or add some personality to your look? The socks that you put on with a golf outfit will give you the chance to do it.
Like most other golf gear, golf socks used to be pretty run of the mill. But in 2019, you can find socks in a wide range of colors and patterns. Consider going with something out of the ordinary that will catch people’s attention.
Top Your Entire Look off with the Right Hat
Golfers can get away with not wearing hats if they want. But hats serve a very important purpose out on the golf course.
Hats keep the sun out of a golfer’s eyes so that they’re able to take their best shots without the sun interfering with their vision. But this doesn’t mean golfers have to get stuck wearing hats that will ruin the rest of their looks.
Rather than buying a hat that has a company’s name plastered across the front of it, search for something a bit more understated. It should complement the rest of your outfit and top off the look that you’re going for in the right way.
Golf Style Doesn’t Have to Be Boring Anymore
Professional golfers aren’t ever going to have as much swag as, say, professional basketball or football players. Can you imagine a golfer doing a post-round interview in one of the outfits Cam Newton wears during his post-game press conferences?
But golf style has come a long way over the last 500 years or so. And that’s great news for you if you enjoy showing off your swag when you’re out on the golf course.
