3 Simple Ways To Look More Formal At A Wedding

If you are going to be attending a wedding soon, especially one that’s meant to be formal, you might be wondering what you can and should wear in order to give the wedding party the respect their day deserves. But with so many different kinds of weddings and expectations for the attendees, it can be hard to know how to dress, even when a brief description of guidelines has been given.

If this is something that you’ve been struggling with, here are three simple ways to look more formal at a wedding.

Choose The Fanciest Thing In Your Closet

In the event that the wedding you’re invited to is meant to be formal but you aren’t sure what to wear, one good rule of thumb to follow is to choose the fanciest thing in your closet. Especially for weddings that state that they are black tie, you’ll want to be sure that you wear something that will fit the occasion.

By choosing the item in your closet that is the fanciest, you’ll have a much better chance of matching the style that the wedding party had in mind. And since it’s usually better to err or on the side of being slightly overdressed for a wedding rather than slightly underdressed, it’s very unlikely that you’ll regret wearing the fanciest thing that you can find in your closet—just so long as your fanciest item isn’t a an elegant white dress.

Get The Shoes Right

If the wedding you’re going to hasn’t stated that the clothes need to be particularly formal but you still want to dress nicely for the occasion, one simple thing that you can do to elevate all kinds of looks is to up your shoe game.

The right shoes can take clothes from looking casual to looking intentional. So whether that means strapping on your cutest heels or bringing out dress shoes you haven’t sported since the last wedding you attended, wearing the right shoes can make a big difference.

Go Monochromatic

One of the hardest things about being invited to a wedding is knowing what to wear. Especially if you don’t have the money to buy a brand new outfit just for the occasion, it can be a real challenge to work with what you have, particularly if you tend to dress on the more casual side.

To work with this, you might want to try going for a monochromatic look. By wearing clothes that are all close to the same color and then throwing in one splash of color in a subtle but obvious way, you can make a simple look appear much more elegant and help you feel more comfortable in this setting.

If you want to look more formal at the next wedding you attend, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you accomplish this.
