Putting your home on the market is a big decision and comes with many stresses as well as excitements. Every year, millions of us put our home on the market with no knowing how long it’s going to take. There are certainly little things you can do to help your home sell, so here are our tips…
First impressions are very important especially when it comes to selling. The exterior of the house will determine as to whether potential buyers think it’s worth going to view. Therefore, we’d keep the front garden well weeded, do any necessary paintings to the front door or windowpanes and make sure it’s looking as bright as possible. Installing a fence is popular for those with young children and keep your hedges nice and trim. If you’re really wanting to go to town then put some plant pots about and even plant new flowers, after all you can enjoy all these things too!
A good way to improve curb appeal is to focus special attention on your front door and this can of course be done by getting a new one. We can’t stress the importance of curb appeal enough, if your home doesn’t have it then you’re going to struggle.
Moving onto your interior, there’s nothing worse than old stained carpet. Even though buyers should see past this, many don’t and it’s very off putting. So, rip out those outdated carpets in favour of floors such as wood, laminate, vinyl or stone. Not only do they look fresher but are much more durable and practical.
Colours are important too. Stay away from anything too colourful and characterful. Instead, opt for something a little more neutral like grey, white or magnolia. This is because you essentially want a blank canvas so perspective buyers can envision it as their home easier as it’s hard to object to neutral décor! Don’t be afraid of warm colours like blue and orange, but stay away from anything too wacky.
Think about which of these updates is most relevant for you and spend a little time undertaking some changes before you put your house up, it’ll be better in the long run!
