Are you heading to Indianapolis soon? Wondering what to do when there? Read on to learn about the top things to do in Indianapolis.
One of the Top Things to Do in Indianapolis – The IndyCar Experience
If you aren’t planning on being in Indianapolis for the Indy 500 in May, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the racing scene altogether. Visit the 500 Museum to see how racing evolved through history, or go to the Dallara Factory to try your hand in one of the driving simulators.
If you are ready to take it to the next step, visit the Speedway Indoor Karting for some go-kart racing like you’ve never seen before.
Do You Have a Taste for the Paranormal?
It’s no surprise that the locals in Indianapolis love the paranormal. The area is rich in history and many sites are reportedly haunted. Crown Hill Cemetery is at the top of the list for haunted locations (some would say it might be one of the most haunted locations in the US) as it has more than 200,000 graves, many of which are those of Civil War soldiers.
There are official events for ghost hunting and some public and private walking tours that you will not want to miss out on.
The Hannah House is also another famously haunted location in Indianapolis. The house itself is a piece of architectural history, but it has an unfortunate event in its past.
The original owner of the home, Alexander Hannah, was an abolitionist and used his home as a stop on the underground railroad. One fateful night while some runaway slaves were hiding in the basement waiting to board a train headed to freedom, a lantern overturned in the basement, setting the room on fire and killing several people.
Many believe that this event is the main reason for the hauntings. Visitors reportedly experience poltergeist activity and other disturbing events that they can’t explain.
For Something Completely Different
For something a little more upbeat, Indianapolis has several options to test your riddle and puzzle-solving skills in an escape-type game. The Escape Room is one of the most popular ones and has several different styles of rooms that will keep you thrilled and coming back for more.
You can also take a trip back in time and see a movie at a 1950s style drive-in theater. There are several in the area and some that feature different fun events like a monster fest or a fright night. This is a fun and unique movie-watching experience for the whole family.
