Cruise Essentials for Your Suitcase
Exploring the Amazon is often a once in a lifetime experience and can be very exciting. While you might not have the same experiences in the movie Anaconda, you do want to be prepared. You can view here more content about shopping for a cruise on Amazon, but the information below will help you get started right away.
1. Proper Clothing & Shoes
When you pack for the Amazon, bringing the proper clothing and shoes has to be at the top of the list. If you don’t bring the right shoes and clothes to the Amazon, you may get injured or sick.
It’s very hot in the Amazon jungle. Your clothing should fit loose and be dry-fit. Since it is hot, you might think you want to wear short sleeves and shorts. Do not wear short sleeves and shorts when you’re cruising down the Amazon.
Protect yourself from the mosquitos by wearing long sleeves and pants. The long sleeves and pants will also help you protect your skin from the sun. When you’re going to be lounging around on the cruise, you can wear cotton clothing which makes it much more comfortable.
Talk to the cruise line you’ll be on and see if they will provide shoes or if you need to bring your own boots. If you don’t have rubber boots, find high-quality boots that will hold up to the Amazon environment. You don’t want to hit the jungle without proper footwear.
2. Head Protection
Remember it is going to be very hot in the Amazon jungle. The sun will be beating down on your skin unless you wear proper skin protection.
Bring a wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun out of your face. Make sure your hat is not a dark color. The darker colored hat will draw the heat and make your head sweat.
The hat you choose needs to be dry-fit to keep you from sweating. You can find hats that have a back flap that goes over your neck for further protection. The hat back flap will protect you from the sun and the mosquitoes.
If you have bangs or long hair, you might find it helpful to wear a headband. The humidity in the Amazon will wreak havoc on your hair so you want to be prepared to hold it back and keep sweat from running down in your eyes.
Long hair should be restrained in a ponytail or a bun. You don’t want it getting snagged on a tree or other obstruction. If your hair is down, it is also much hotter and could slow you down and cause great discomfort.
3. Don’t Forget the Toiletries
When you’re in the Amazon, you can’t just run to the store for things you forget. Toiletries are a must so you can keep clean and comfortable on your cruise even if you don’t need all of your best beauty products. Here are some of the most important things you need to remember:
- Bug Spray With DEET
- Medication
- High SPF Sunscreen
- Hand Sanitizer
- Cleansing Wipes
- Hydrocortisone Cream
- Malaria Tablets
- Biodegradable Shampoos and Soaps
While you might see the bug spray in your country bragging about being low in DEET, if you’re in the Amazon – you need high DEET to keep the mosquitoes away.
Do not forget any medication you need on a daily basis but also bring any medication that you might need. It is better to be over prepared than being under prepared.
Make sure your sunscreen is high enough in SPF to protect your skin.
Keeping your hands clean using cleansing wipes and hand sanitizer is a must. If you don’t keep your hands clean and you put them too close to your mouth, you may get seriously sick. This is why you need to bring malaria tablets as well.
When you’re using shampoos and soaps, you aren’t always going to be inside. You need to have soaps and shampoos that you can use outside without worrying about the environment.
4. Helpful Gadgets
While you don’t want to overpack, there are some helpful gadgets you can bring that will make your cruise more enjoyable.
The first thing you need is a backpack that is easy to carry. The straps shouldn’t pull on your shoulders and back in an uncomfortable way. You need to have plenty of support so you can carry it easily when you’re hiking.
You’re likely to see things you won’t want to get too close to when you’re in the Amazon. Bringing binoculars will allow you to get the view you need. Bring a good camera with plenty of memory cards that will allow you to capture these instances as well.
It’s going to be very bright during the day so invest in some good sunglasses. You want them to protect all around your eyes so don’t worry too much about the cool factor but instead think about how well they function.
While it’s not a gadget – it can get you gadgets. Cash!
Bring cash so you can buy something cool to bring back to friends and family.
