5 Factors That Matter When You Want to Pet a Brazilian Black Tarantula

Fuzzy and docile, a Brazilian tarantula may not look like it, but it makes for a great pet. Naturally, when you look at something fuzzy and adorable, the instinct is to pet it. It may be a challenge for aspiring or new pet owners to keep themselves from petting their brand new Brazilian black tarantula. However, when you want to pet this tarantula, you must keep a few things in mind.

Learning About the Brazilian Tarantula

Before you learn how you should pet this tarantula, you may want to learn a few things about it. It is crucial for those who may be considering getting this species as a pet to know what they are like.

The black tarantula is not as conspicuous as others of this species. It has sleek, black, and glossy furs covering its body, giving it a distinguished look. This tarantula is generally calm, docile, and slow-moving.

When handled cautiously, it is calm. However, this species takes a long time to mature; hence, you must be patient when you get a tiny Brazilian tarantula spiderling.

What to Keep in Mind When Handling a Brazilian Tarantula?

When you take a look at this docile and fur-covered creature, you will be eager to pet them. Although this species is generally calm when handled and does not bite, you will still need to handle them with care. Here is what you should keep in mind

  1. Wear Gloves

When handling this species, it is best to wear gloves. This tarantula, like others, is covered in urticating hair, which can be irritating. Although the Brazilian is more docile than others and less likely to use their urticating hair to harm others; wearing gloves is a good precaution to follow.

2. Be Gentle

No matter which pet you are handling, it is always best to be gentle. You never know which movement may hurt your furry friend; hence, using gentle movements will not only make sure you won’t hurt your pet but also help them feel comfortable.

When urging them to keep moving, a soft nudge to their abdomen is enough to spur them on. Usually, a simple nudge does not irritate or threaten them, and they will not react negatively to it.

3. Hold Them over a Soft Surface

The abdomen and soft frontal region of the Brazilian black tarantula are quite sensitive. Even a fall of one meter or less can be quite harmful to your pet. Hence, when holding your pet, make sure that you hold them low, over a soft surface not to hurt if they jump out of your hand.

4. Keep the Face Away

As mentioned earlier, the black tarantula has urticating hair, which may be activated when they feel threatened. To ensure you are safe, keep your face away from the tarantula so the hair does not get into your eyes.

5. Wash Your Hands

After you have handled your pet, even if it has been for a short while, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly with a reptile safe hand wash.

The Brazilian black tarantula is an intriguing pet and is an excellent choice for beginners. Their calm nature makes them easy to deal with and care for. When handling your pet, make sure that you are calm and gentle to help them feel more comfortable around you.
